A Blast from God!
Testimony from
Sandy Soja
The most incredible thing happened on a trip from Connecticut to Dallas in August of
1998 that confirms how God uses the shofar as a weapon to defeat the enemy and as an
important tool in conjunction with intercession. My oldest daughter, Christi, and I had
just left my youngest daughter, Bethany, in Dallas after settling her into her room as a
new student at Christ for the Nations Bible School. We had hoped to register her quickly
and leave by noon because of our 11 hour drive back
to Nashville where Christi lives. However, we were held up by the process and could not
leave until 4:00 p.m. but decided that the Lord was in control even though it meant
driving well into the night. The Lord had already shown me that I needed to listen to Him
about every detail regarding our trip so I had even asked him which one of us was to drive
first on the way home and He said, "Christi." As the passenger, I was just
recovering from my maternal emotions about releasing Beth, when the
highway traffic came to a complete halt. I asked the truck driver next to me who was using
his CB radio what was going on. He informed me that there was a young man trying to commit
suicide on the bridge up ahead. Christi and I began interceding and I could see a
picture of scales and
that his life was in the balance. We kept crying out to God for a half hour as all the
crawling traffic was rerouted onto a parallel service road right next to the highway.
Finally, the bridge came into view and we could see the figure of a man straddling the
guard rail of the overpass above the highway. All traffic had been stopped on the highway
and on the bridge, and there were numerous police cars and officials at either end of the
bridge. Now the Lord had instructed me to bring my shofar when I traveled from Connecticut
to Nashville to pick up my oldest daughter and then to
bring it with me on our trip to Dallas and I had wondered what the reason was. About 10
minutes before the bridge, the Lord told me to open the car window and blow the shofar
once out the window which I did. However, as we crawled along close to the bridge, we were
earnestly praying and the Lord instructed me to point the shofar at the man and blow a
short blast. After the first blast, the man stood up. God kept telling me to blow the
shofar again and again. At the second blast, the man got off the guard rail and was
standing on the bridge. At the third blast, he turned and faced the people at the end of
the bridge. With each blast, he walked toward the waiting people closer and closer and
just as we had to drive out of sight of him, we saw him safely reach the arms of those
waiting for him. In between blasts, we would shout through the closed window, "Keep
going!" I can not describe what we felt. We were crying and in awe of the Lord and
recognizing He held up our schedule to be there just at that time to watch Him save a man
from death. It took awhile for us to recover! Because we obeyed for Christi to drive, I
was free to be able to blow the shofar etc. . What a lesson I am learning about the need
to obey the still small voice of the Lord in the seemingly
insignificant thing. God please help us to have ears to hear more clearly! What an
incredible, awesome God we serve!
